The Superpave Plant Technologist (SPT) Course is a three-and-a-half-day training (18 credit hours) designed to prepare individuals involved in the production, placement, quality control, or quality assurance of asphalt pavements used on highways, airfields, and developments across Kentucky. The course covers KYTC contract and documentation requirements, general asphalt mixing plant operations, daily inspection duties, asphalt and aggregate sampling, and materials testing for KYTC acceptance.
Participants must successfully complete both a written and practical examination to earn official certification. Certified Superpave Plant Technologists will receive all rights and privileges outlined in the current edition of the KYTC Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction. Certification is valid for five years, after which requalification is required. Exam results for those who pass will be reported to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
