Local Bridges 101

This course reviews roles and responsibilities of local agencies in maintaining and funding locally owned bridges. Concepts of bridge structures and terminology are reviewed as well as an overview of the County City Bridge Improvement Program Application requirements.

Who Should Attend
  • County Judge/Executive
  • Mayor
  • County Road Supervisor/County Engineer
  • Public Works Director/City Engineer/Public Works Superintendent

At this time, course registration is restricted to only these positions.

  • Overview of Annual Bridge Inspection Reports provided to local agencies (how to read an inspection report)
  • Overview of Local Bridge Repair/Replacement Funding Program
  • Local Bridge Repair/Replacement Funding Program Application Review (How to apply)
  • Standard/Typical maintenance, repair and replacement procedures
  • Work Description Requirements (sketch/plan of proposed work, standard drawings, cost estimate)
  • When Counties should consider contracting bridge repair work/plans (greater than 100 feet use a consultant)
  • How basic asset management can help assist Counties maintain structures
  • Review of Bridge Repair/Replacement Resources
Policy
In order to be eligible for funding for the CCBIP the Judge/Executive or Mayor from each county/city is required to attend the Local Bridges 101 course and the Road Supervisor, Public Works director or equivalent from each county /city is required to attend both the Local Bridges 101 and 102 courses. At this time, course registration is restricted to only these positions.
